Domestic partnership a “no-brainer”

Posted on: March 8, 2012

Elected officials are starting to actively speak out on the fact that equal rights for all simply makes sense.  Orange County leaders in Florida recently announced that domestic partners should have the right to visit each other in the hospital and tend to each other’s needs in nursing homes.   Commissioner Jennifer Thompson stepped up to say that such a move was “a no-brainer.”

Scott Maxwell explores this idea more deeply in his article at the Orlando Sentinel, adding that Thompson is absolutely right.

“The rights we are talking about here are among the most basic,” he writes. “They involve letting individuals choose who will sit beside their deathbed in their final hours — and letting police know whom they should contact in the event of an accident.”
