HUD can no longer inquire about sexual orientation

Posted on: April 2, 2012

In good news, HUD Secretary Shaun Donovan announced that owners and operators of .S. Department of Housing and Urban Development-funded housing can no longer inquire about an applicant’s gender identity or sexual orientation.

She says the new rule “says clearly and unequivocally that LGBT individuals and couples have the right to live where they choose,” and shows “a real demonstration of how important this issue is to me, to the president, to the entire administration.”

She also announced that plans are also in place to conduct a study nationwide on LGBT housing discrimination.
