David Blakenhorn comes out in favor of same-sex marriage!

Posted on: June 27, 2012

Surprisingly, it looks like the chief witness for California’s same-sex marriage ban recently changed his mind.  David Blankenhorn, President of the Institute for American Values recently wrote an op-ed essay in the New York Times explaining that he would rather “help build new coalitions bringing together gays who want to strengthen marriage with straight people who want to do the same” than fight against same-sex marriage.

He also adds “once we accept gay marriage, might we also agree that marrying before having children is a vital cultural value that all of us should do more to embrace?”

The fight against Prop 8 is truly gaining steam.  Some of this might be the work of Chad Griffin, the new head of the Human Rights Campaign who has shown his willingness to approach people on all sides of the issue when he enlisted Republicans like Theodore Olson or Ken Mehlman.  With this news and the support of the sitting president and numerous advocates and governors throughout the country, this Pride month is looking rosier and rosier
