Change of Heart Within Conservative Party Concerning LGBT Equal Rights

Posted on: July 27, 2012

The majority of the GOP is against same-sex marriage. That is why it is surprising that a few prominent figures from the Bush Administration are coming forward to announce their support for it. Many people in George W. Bush’s 2004 campaign are now ‘coming out’ to show their support. Some of these figures include Dick Cheney, John Bolton, and Colin Powell. Even George W. Bush’s wife, Laura Bush, is pushing for Gay Rights. Ken Mehlman, Bush’s 2004 campaign manager, came out of the closet in 2010. He now is now active in pushing for equal rights. Times are changing for the better within the conservative party.

The organization finally started ‘Young Conservatives for the Freedom to Marry’. Since younger generations of conservatives between the ages of eighteen to forty four are evenly divided on this topic, this initiative is a positive attempt to get everyone to unite. While a large portion of the GOP still opposes equal rights, things are certainly changing in favor of the LGBT community. It’s possible that more conservatives may have a change of heart in the future. We can hope that the ‘Young Conservatives for the Freedom to Marry’ will help more conservatives come to the light.
