NOH8 Campaign Welcomes Liza Minnelli

Posted on: May 21, 2013

Actress Liza Minnelli has joined up with the NOH8 campaign, which supports LGBT rights and same-sex marriage. Long recognized as an outspoken advocate of LGBT rights, Minnelli posed for photos promoting the campaign last week.

In the photos, Minnelli is wearing a flowing white shirt against a white backdrop. She wears silver bangles and earrings. Her hands are outspread before her, perhaps to signify the absence of a wedding ring. Her mouth is duct taped and her eyes stare directly into the camera. Written on her cheek is the NOH8 logo.

“Here’s what I believe… no shame, no blame, no guilt,” said Liza Minnelli. “Be happy. And be who you are. I love you.”

Minnelli is an Emmy, Oscar, and Tony award-winning actress who has performed both on stage and for the camera. She is the daughter of Judy Garland and Vicente Minnelli.

NOH8 was originally launched to oppose the passage of California’s Proposition 8, which banned same-sex marriage in the state. Minnelli now joins a long list of supporters for NOH8, including fellow celebrities Kathy Griffin and Jane Lynch. Twenty-six U.S. Congressmen and women also posed for the campaign previously.

Proposition 8 is up for debate this year in the Supreme Court, along with the federal Defense of Marriage Act (DOMA). Earlier this spring, lawyers both in support and opposition to the two laws made appearances and presented arguments for the cases. The Supreme Court is expected to issue a decision by this summer.
